Memories – How He Proposed

Last night I was thinking back to when my husband proposed to me. I realized that it had happened six years ago just two days ago! I thought it would be fun to share the story of how it happened as a good reminder in our history of love.

Summer Evening, September Ninth, Year Two-Thousand Six

He picked me up for a dinner date. Just a regular night out, but in change, we decided to have fun and dress real nice. I was actually the one who suggested it because, well, sometimes a girl wants to dress up!

It was warm, moon was almost to it’s fullest, I was relaxed (I had NO clue!), and it was not dark yet.

We drove to the Summit House, which is a very expensive restaurant in Fullerton, CA. We got out of the car and tried to see if we could get a good look at the sunset. BUT there were too many trees, hills, and more trees so we were unable to see it!

So then we left the parking lot and drove off to attempt to chase down the sun. Still too many trees and now tall buildings! Not a place in sight where we could see the sunset.

My Mr. Incredible was soooOOOoooOOOO bummed.

I told him it was ok and that we could find the sunset another night. We turned around and drove back to the Summit House. We parked the vehicle and waited a while (reservations were at 8 and it was still 7 something).

He then takes my hand and we go for a walk and we find…

a dirt patch

a bunch of weeds right next to a metal fence overlooking the city lights

an oil derrick was to our right and we actually had a small view of the sunset over the city lights. With lovely smog and colorful pink sun rays sitting above the smog.

Can you get the picture here??!?

We are standing close to a light pole, and Daniel says “This is so unromantic” and starts pointing everything out that wasn’t “romantic”.  I  told him that I didn’t mind because I was with him. (everybody say awwwww)

He turns me to face him, he just stares into my eyes. He slowly begins to say something in sign language and he asked/signs ……

“Will You Marry Me?”

I couldn’t really believe what I saw and my quick response was

“Are You Serious????” (you’ll have to know that he had been practicing signs with me and in my head I thought he was practicing these signs and thought- this is so NOT cool! He can’t play with my heart like that!)

I think he realized that he had better act fast and so he quickly went down on one knee and pulled out the ring. THAT’s when I knew he really WAS serious!

I covered my face with my hands, took a deep breath of happiness and signed,

“YES!”

It was wonderful. We then celebrated this special moment by eating our dinner and just enjoying each others presence. I of course could not stop staring at my beautiful ring as it kept glistening from the lights above our table.

I believe Mr. Incredible is right when he says that he can almost guarantee that NO other girl will have a proposal like the one I had with my many “romantic” surroundings. HaHa!

It was just PERFECT I thought. ♥
